The Wolf, goat and cabbage brain teaser comes from the 8th century A.D. and is attributed to Alcuin, an Anglo-Saxon monk, born in York in 735, one of the leading scholars of his time. It requires a bit of logic and non inertial thinking. It is usually solved in a few minutes by children. Does it take longer for adults?

A man has to take a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage across a river. While crossing the river the man can carry only one of them. Only when the man is present are the goat and the cabbage safe from their enemies.
